If you want your medical internship to be successful, you have to pick a good program. In order to pick a good program, you have to start early with applications. You also have to cover a lot of ground. During the internship itself, you have to do well. So basically a successful internship is decided by two main parts, the preparation and the performance.

Preparation
To be accepted in the best internship programs, you have to have a good academic and working record. With a great resume and a stellar application essay, you can help support your bid for an internship position. Note that a great resume does not depend on the quantity of experiences but on the quality. Know the particular instructions that a certain program give out and follow them to the letter. Do not confuse one program for the other if you are applying to several internship programs at the same time. During the application process, make sure you behave your best. At this point, you should already know the proper etiquette of interviews and post-interviews. You do have to prepare for the interview by getting to know as much as you can about the program you are applying for.
Performance
Treat your med school internship as a real job that you do not want to get fired from. This means that you should always be on time or even much earlier than the starting time. You have to always be eager to learn something new. Do not show yourself to be easily discouraged or frustrated. You have to be prepared to do more than you are expected to do and what you initially expected to do. You should not be afraid to give extra hours for the sake of work well done. Keep away from gossip and any other undesirable behavior that could weigh down what could already be work well done.
An internship is an important part in your road towards the medical profession. During this period, you are able to apply what you have learned so far in practical applications. You also get used to do the stress and the long hours associated with medical work.
