High Paying Alternative Career Options for Med School Graduates

Let’s face it: not everyone who graduates from medical school actually become doctors. There are those who may change their minds along the way. There are also those who do not pass the specialization period or the board exam. However, they are still armed with a medical degree. So what are the other career options they have with such a degree? Could these alternatives still be lucrative? The best way to handle a medical degree that you are not going to use as a physician is to conduct some research on some of the high-paying alternative medical careers out there. Career fairs and counselors can provide you with the answers that you need.

Healthcare Administrator

Med school graduates can pursue a short course in health administration to supplement their medical degree. This way, they can head small hospitals and clinics at first. They may even move further up, depending on whose account the smaller health facilities are operating on. Being a healthcare administrator is a lucrative option for medical school graduates who also want to practice their management skills.

Healthcare Program Coordinator

Another good career options is being a healthcare program coordinator. The medical school graduate can still use their knowledge in health without having to work the usual stressful hours of a physician.
Clinic Research Assistant or Head Researcher

Those who prefer the research aspect of medicine may want to work as either a head researcher or a clinic research assistant, possibly depending on their qualifications. They can start as a clinical research assistant then work their way towards the top position.

Clinical Instructor or Professor

Medical school graduates whose passion is in teaching may want to teach in medical schools or in other health-related schools. They get to have the regular hours of professors while still enjoying a medical school degree and possibly high salaries, depending on what university they are working for.

After medical school, the graduate does not have to be limited to clinical practice. There are other careers that can still provide high salary that they can choose from when they feel as if they have changed their minds about practicing as a physician.
